Art as Altar: Where Creativity Meets the Sacred

 — (PST, UTC-08) — (PST, UTC-08)

online event

Hosted by Thrive Network & Rooting in the Sacred

"When we create with intention, our creations become the invocation, and the space inside and between us becomes the sanctuary." -Alixa Garcia

"Let the sound be my portal, let it be light I see by, let it be where I am humble, only to pour out the divine." -Jenn Johns, "Prayer Song"

Join Thrive Network & Rooting in the Sacred virtually on Saturday, January 10th for Art as Altar: Where Creativity Meets the Sacred with beloved poet, artist & activist Alixa Garcia and internationally acclaimed musician & vocalist Jenn Johns.

Art as Altar is an invitation to step into our creativity as a living spiritual practice—an encounter with presence, mystery, and meaning. In a world where so many inherited pathways to the sacred have thinned, fractured or fallen away...art, music, and poetry remain vital doorways to the divine. They offer an approach to the sacred where the numinous and ineffable can still be felt in the body, heard in sound, seen in form, and shared in community.

How can we engage with art, music, and poetry as altars—where we pause, offer ourselves, and allow something larger than us to move through our bodies, voices, spirits and imagination? How do creative practices open ways of knowing beyond language, reconnecting us with ancestral and communal wisdom, and bringing us into direct contact with the sacred energy of Life itself?

Through a dynamic mix of storytelling, reflection, conversation, and shared experience, we will explore the ways in which we are vessels of sacred expression, each carrying a unique voice, style, and vibration that is the gift of ourselves and for the world. We will honor creative expression not primarily as product or performance, but as a sacred act of devotion, attention and creation. Whether you identify as an artist or simply as someone drawn to beauty and meaning, we invite you to gather with us as we discover how creative practice can root us more deeply in reverence, awaken our sense of belonging, and offer life-giving possibilities for personal and collective renewal.

(Note: We will spend time with Alixa Garcia in the first hour of this offering, with Jenn Johns in the second hour, and with both of them in conversation in the last half hour.)
